It was a tough opening weekend for the Oswego State Women's Hockey Team, dropping both games of their opening weekend to the Adrian Bulldogs at home. Game One of the series was Friday night and Freshman Bridget Smith got the start in net for Oswego. She faced 30 shots and made 27 saves, getting beat for goals from Ashley Gniewek, Hannah McGowan (Powerplay Goal), and Kristin Maton. Oswego was able to manage 40 shots on net, but Adrian netminder Emily Michelin turned aside every single one of them. The scoring chances where there but Oswego just wasn't able to convert.
Saturday afternoon, Oswego's offense FINALLY woke up, but so too did Adrians. Danielle Smith got Adrian on the board first with a powerplay goal with about two minutes left in the opening period. Less than a minute later Oswego scored there first goal of the year, and it was last years leading scorer Mackenzie Lee got on the scoresheet. Moving to the 2nd Adrian took a 2-1 lead on a Ashley Gniewek goal, her 2nd of the weekend 2:44 into the middle frame. But Oswego answered right back thanks to a Carly Henderson Powerplay goal at 9:28. Courtney Millar gave Adrian the lead back at the 12 minute mark of the 2nd and held that 3-2 lead after 2 periods.
The third saw the flood gates open up for Adrian as Olivia Rork and Lauren Zachwieja would give the Bulldogs a 5-2 lead. Kelly Collins, last years leading goal scorer, cut the lead to 5-3 but it wasn't enough as Adrian held on by that score. Emily Michelin got the win again for Adrian making 31 saves. Cathrine Cote took the loss for Oswego making 26 saves.
