Toronto had a lot riding on Game Seven Sunday night. The Raptors haven't played a game seven since 2016, one in which they beat the Miami Heat to reach the Eastern Conference Finals. Now they have the same scenario. They have a game seven Sunday with a shot to go to the East Finals, all they have to do is knock off the Philadelphia 76ers. The best players step up in the biggest moments, and that's what Kawhi Leonard did.
Toronto and Philadelphia went back and forth in this final game of the series. This epic battle included 10 lead changes and six ties leading up to the final seconds of the series. Then Kawhi took an inbound pass and did this:
Now when the ball first left his hands, it looked like it might have been good enough. the first bounce made it look like it was gonna miss and we'd be heading to overtime. But it didn't and manged to bounce Toronto's way. That couple of seconds where everybody held there breath to see if the ball would fall, and the reaction afterwards from both crowd and players, was one of pure joy at the end of it.
Shots like this don't happen very often. When they do, they seem to happen at the biggest moments. For Philadelphia, it ends in heartache. For Toronto, it means a conference finals appearance for the first time in three years. It also means another step closer to something that the Raptors have never had:P an NBA finals appearance. Its amazing to think about, that for a team that's been in the NBA since 1995-96, they've never made the finals. They've reached round three now twice, 2016 and this year.
Can the magic from that Leonard shot power the Raptors further? We shall find out in a couple of weeks.
