Best & Worst Of NFL Week 3

We're three weeks into the NFL season and we still have more than a few intriguing stories. Eight teams remain unbeaten: Kansas City, New England, Green Bay, San Francisco, Los Angles (Rams), Buffalo, Dallas, and Detroit. Some were expected to be there, while others like Buffalo, San Francisco and Detroit are a bit of a surprise. And at the other end we have teams like Miami, New York (Jets), Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Denver, Washington and Arizona, have yet to find a win. We had a rookie QB steal the show down in Tampa, while another replacement couldn't get the job done for the Steelers. So here's some of the best and worst of the week that was in week three.

Best:
Daniel Jones, Quarterback New York Giants
The DJ era with the Giants has gotten off to a flying start. New York got its first win of the year, a nail bitting 32-30 win over the Bucs. Jones was on point on the day, going 23 of 36 for 336 yards two passing and two rushing touchdowns, including the go ahead score late in the game. Only negative was that he was sacked five times on the day. To give a perfect picture of how this kid could do in this game was the 7 yard throw to Sterling Sheppard in the 3rd quarter. He managed to hang in the pocket and put the ball where Sheppard was going to be able to get it. He's showing people that he could truly be worthy of where the Giants took him in the draft this year. Now its just the first game Jones has ever played, lets not jump the gun. If this was any indication, he's going to be something special.

Worst:
Mason Rudolph, Quarterback Pittsburgh Steelers
Its tough to be the follow up act to Big Ben in Pittsburgh. Mason Rudolph was next man up after Ben went down with his elbow injury. Pittsburgh said that they felt confident that Mason would keep Pittsburgh afloat. It got off to a rocky start with a 24-20 loss to the 49ers. Oh and in a game in which San Francisco turned the ball over five times, Rudolph struggled to generate any real momentum. He missed open targets and led drives that often stalled. He did have two long scoring throws of 76 and 39 yards. But the first was thanks to the speed and elusiveness of JuJu Smith-Schuster, who's kind of good, and the second was on a blown coverage. If you remove those two passes, Rudolph was just 12 of 25 for 59 yards with one interception. Could be a long season without Ben. Rudolph better step it up.

Best:
Mike Evans, Wide Receiver Tampa Bay Bucaneers
Before the Bucs offense shut down in the 2nd half of the game, Evans hyad them rolling right along. We already talked about what Jones did for the Giants, but if the Bucs had managed to hit the game winning field goal in their 32-30 loss, then Evans would be the hot topic talked about. He finished with eight catches, three of which went for touchdowns, and 190 yards. The yards topped the league for pass catchers this week. Part of me feels bad for Evans because he had such an outstanding performance wasted this weekend. Hope for him that things can get a little better in the win colum, because he deserves it.

Worst;
Chris Carson, Running Back Seattle Seahawks

Playing running back in the NFL is a tough job. If your in Seattle, you got a crowded field to try and break into. Carson was supposed to step up and try and get a stronghold of the number one job in Seattle. New Orleans walked away with a 33-27 win over the Seahawks. Nw on the year, Carson has 45 carries for 159 yards and a touchdown. Any good back can get that many yards in a single week. But he's done it over three games. Not very good. To make matters worse, in this week's loss to the Saints, he coughed up the ball, and the it was recovered by safety Vonn Bell and returned for a touchdown. That gave Carson three fumbles, all of them lost, through his first 49 offensive touches of the year. Not good.

Best:
Dalvin Cook, Running Back Minnesota Vikings
When Minnesota has their offense going, it can be a tough thing to stop. Just ask the raiders, who got slapped around on Sunday to the tune of a 34-14 win by the Vikings. And in the process, Dalvin Cook nput himself in the league record books. Cook became only the fifth player in NFL history to rush for 110 or more yards and at least one touchdown in each of his first three games to start a season. At the time of writing, Cook leads the league in rushing, with 375 yards, and is second in rushing touchdowns , with four After dealing with some nagging injuries in the first few seasons of his career, Cook’s start to 2019 proves he’s ready to be one of the top backs in the NFL

Worst:
Freddie Kitchins, Head Coach Cleveland Browns
There were very high hopes for this Browns team this year, but they've played sloppy through the first three games. Got blown out by 30 week one. Got back on their feet by beating a sloppy Jets team week two. Then, this week, get plunked by the Rams 20-13. Sure, it does speak volumes to the defense, holding the highest scoring team in the league last year, to just 20 points this week. It's the offense and Freddie Kitchins play calling that did them in this week. On fourth-and-9, trailing by four points and in enemy territory, the Browns were aggressive enough to leave the offense on the field rather than attempt a 57-yard field goal or boot a cowardly punt. But the play they called was a freaking draw play. A DRAW play. That can't happen. Cleveland isn't living up to the hype and Kitchins play calling is a big reason for that.

Best:
Kyle Allen, Quarterback Carolina Panthers
There was some speculation as to who was going to make the start in Carolina in week three. If Cam Newton was healthy he was going to play. Newton wasn't healthy and Allen got the start, Turned out to be a pretty good move. Allen lead Carolina to a 38-20 win over Arizona and was on fire during this contest. Allen finished his Sunday going 19 of 26, 261 yards, throwing for four touchdowns. With this kind of performance, it shows that the Panthers are in good hands without Newton, which gives Cam a little more time to rest and heal properly before coming back into the mix.

Worst:
Denver Broncos Pass Rush
You would like to think that, with talented edge rushers like Von Miller and Bradley Chubb, Denver would be a force to be reckoned with in that regards. Well Denver's pass rush has been MIA all year. Not only did they fall to the Packers 27-16, but they got nowhere near Aaron Rogers. Not one single sack on Sunday. As a matter of fact, the Broncos are the only team in the entire league that doesn't have a sack yet. And Bradley Chubb is the only one to even get to the QB, he has all three of the Broncos QB hits. This maybe a cause for why the Broncos are 0-3 so far this season. To make matters sting worse, Shaq Barrett, who they let go to Tampa in the offseason, leads the NFL with eight for the season. Ouch
