Trouble In Tampa?

Training Camp has arrived around the National Football League. With camps opening in Tampa Bay, there had been some questions going into it. one about the Quarterback, and the other about a defensive lineman. Both were going into camp on the final year of contracts. One wants out of Tampa, while the other is not continuing talks.

Both Baker Mayfield and Vita Vea have entered this season on the final year of deals, and both were hoping to have new contracts by the camps start. One is going to stay put, while the other may want out before the season starts.

Baker is going to stay and play this year. According to his agent that the two sides are not close on signing a new deal. Baker was in the middle of the pack among starting QBs in terms of salary, which if I'm being honest is good value for what this guy has done for this team since he's gotten here. Baker's camp, according to people close to the situation, say that he wanted a deal that reflects not only his performance but is also in line with what other QBs of his caliber are making.

Baker will be playing in Tampa on this current year left on his deal. I give him credit for it. I know he wants a new deal, but he's smart enough to play and keep doing what he's doing on this deal. It also makes sense if your Baker, giving the news that came out with the injuries he was dealing with a season ago. Yes, we understand he wants a long term deal and have a team show faith in him as being the guy. But after last year, and he's fully healthy this year, teams would want to make sure that he is fully back and can be worth getting a hefty paycheck. He seems to like it here in Tampa and seems to be producing in this system, which he had a little trouble doing in his previous stops in Cleveland, Carolina and Los Angeles. Baker is at least going about this the right way.

Unlike Vita, who's requesting a trade since he hasn't gotten his new contract. Vita has held out during mini camp, which Baker did participate in. Vita wants a big contract. I'm not taking anything away from his talent. He's obviously good enough to not only be in the NFL but have played eight years already in this league. But if he wants a big deal worth some of the top end talent, guys like say a Maxx Crosby or somebody like that, he hasn't proven to me yet that he's going to be worth getting that big of a deal Yes, he's a talented player, but he's not really worth high end money. He's trying to leverage the Bucs into a deal, somewhat in the same vain Tristan Warfs did two years ago., The Bucs I don't think are going to do that again. So now it's a waiting game with Vea for what they are going to do.

Baker is handl;eing this the right way. Vita, not so much.
