Is This Real Life?

The 2026 Tampa Bay Rays have been playing at a different level this season. As of this writing, they have scored 22 runs in the last two games against the A's out West. The win last night, a 12-4 win in Sacramento, extend the Rays win streak to eight games. All of this coming on the current road trip, which ends this afternoon. The Rays now sit at a six game lead in the AL East over the Yankees and have 73 wins so far on the season.

Is this real life? Yes it is.

In the Rays history, they have eclipsed the 90-win mark nine times in franchise history. They have also finished with a record of over 500 in a season twelve times. This year they will easily do both. Tampa has also been a playoff team nine times in their history, with this year looking like it's going to be their 10th.

So my next question is, how far can this team really go?

Sitting here in almost the middle of August, the Rays have been looking like they are playing really good baseball as of me writing this. They got a good piece added into the mix in Liam Hicks. He's been producing since joining the Rays lineup. And with the top of this lineup being as good as it has been in the likes of Junior Camaniero, Yandy Diaz and Jonathan Aranda. There're a few arms in the pitching staff that are a little banged up at the moment, but the staff that's here has been kind of good.

The fact that the Rays are getting as hot as they are as of this writing has been fantastic. Yes, it's been a lot of fun watching this team battle and compete during the course of this season. We still got a month and a half to go before postseason play really gets rolling. That's where the real test is going to be for this ballclub. Come October, not only do you have to be good, but you also have to have a little bit of luck and a little bit of a hot streak on your side as well. There's still a lot of work to be done for this Rays team to really make any noise and go deep in a playoff run, but the parts are here and it looks like they starting to come into place at just the right time.

If the start of August has been any kind of indication, this could be a very good and possibly dangerous Rays team to watch out for come the fall!
