Oswego women's Hockey Sweeps Weekend Series

The Oswego State Women's Hockey team continue to roll right along during the first half of the season. The team is off to the best start in program history, losing only two games to this point on the year. They kept that record in tact with a clean sweep of the games this past weekend of Canton.

First up was a rare Friday afternoon game, Oswego controlled play from the opening faceoff, skating away with a 3-1 win over the Kangroos. Oswego scored the only goal of the opening period, at the 17:49 mark, when Ashley Lyman scored her 2nd of the year, a beautiful roof shot. To the 2nd period we go, Oswego hanging on to the 1-0 lead. The Lakers stretched the lead to 2-0  at the 7:57 mark when Bridget Hamlin scored her 4th of the season, a powerplay goal. Just about ten minutes later, at the 17:25 mark, Caroline Mundy scored her 1st of the year to get Canton on the board. Oswego would put the game away at the 19:10 mark when Melissa Seamont scored her 5th of the season. Nobody found the back of the net in the 3rd period, allowing Oswego to hang on to the 3-1 victory.

Shayna Dominique look the loss for Canton, dropping her record to 4-4-2, as she stopped 32 of 35 Oswego Shots. Catherine Cote picked up the Win for Oswego, improving her record to 5-2-0, as she stopped 11 of 12 Canton shots.

To the 2nd game we go, Oswego looking to continue the momentum from the win the day before. Oswego did that and then some, dominating the Kangroos to the tune of a 6-1 victory. Oswego got three goals in the 1st period. First at 2:1, Bailee Goodon, playing in her first game of the year, scored her 1st goal of the year. Then the lead was stretched to two, thanks to a powerplay goal from Kendall Appelbaum, her 2nd goal of the season, at the 15:16 mark. Finally at the 19:58 mark, Bridget Hamlin scored her 5th of the year. Oswego had a quick 3-0 lead by the end of one period. To the 2nd period we go, and Oswego was able to keep the pedal to the medal. Bailee Goodon scored her 2nd of the year, and the game, at the 16:55 mark of the period. Oswego scored again at the 19:20 mark when Ashley Lydman scored her 3rd of the year. Canton got on the board, at the 19:40 mark, when Jessica Kistabish scored her 6th of the year. Oswego put the game away for good in the 3rd period, at the 17:11 mark, when Kendall Appelbaum scored her 3rd of the year and 2nd powerplay goal of the night. It sealed a 6-1 win for Oswego.

Applebaum (2G), Bailee Goodon (2G) and Megan Hagg (2A) each had big days offensively. Shayna Dominique took the loss for Canton, dropping her record to 4-5-2, as she stopped 43 of 49 Oswego shots. Bridget Smith picked up the win for Oswego, improving her record to 2-0-1, as she stopped 13 of 14 canton shots.

With the two wins this weekend, Oswego improved their record to 8-2-1 on the season, the best start in school history. The weekend sweep closed out the 2013 portion of the Oswego Schedule, as they next return to the ice in 2014 with the first games of the new year taking place January 10th and 11th on the road against the St. Norbert Green Knights!
