Oswego Men's Hockey Bounces Back Against Cortland

Coming off a split of the Western New York road trip, the Oswego State Men's Hockey team looked to bounce back at home against the Cortland Red Dragons in the only game of last weekend. Oswego already took down the Red Dragons, by a 4-1 score, in Cortland back on November 9th. So could they do it again at home? Yes they could. Oswego jumped out to an early lead and came away with a strong 4-2 win in this matchup.

Oswego jumped out to a three goal lead in the opening period, all coming at even strength. First at 15:22, Chris Waterstreet scored his 3rd of the year. Then at 19:24, Kenny Neil netted his 10th of the season. Finally at 19:52 Nick Rivait scored his 2nd of the season. Oswego carried that 3-0 lead into the middle period.

Cortland got on the board in the middle frame, at the 8:12 mark when Michael Mascaro scored his 1st of the year to cut the lead to 2. Cortland got to within a goal, when at the 16:00 mark of the 3rd period Mike Henrici scored his 6th of the year. Oswego put the game to bed at 18:25 of the 3rd when Brandon Adams scored his 7th of the year, a shoarthanded goal, to seal the 4-2 win for the Lakers.

Lyle Rocker took the loss for Cortland, dropping his record to 2-9-1, as he stopped 10 of the 13 shots he faced. He was replaced in the 2nd period by Mark Balkwill who stopped 18 of the 19 shots he faced. Meanwhile Justin Gilbert got the win for the Lakers, improving his record to 5-2-0 on the year, as he stopped 28 of the 30 shots he faced.

Oswego is now set to take their act on the road as the head to the Iceplex in Morrisville to take on the Mustangs for their two meetings of the season. Normally both teams would play a home and home, one game in Morrisville and one in Oswego, but this year both games are in Morrisville, and they are on back to back days. They play Friday February 7th and Saturday February 8th, both games start at 7PM!
