Oswego Men Sweep Western NY Road Trip

OVer the weekend the Oswego State Men's Hockey Team took their show on the road again, this time to Western New York as they took on Buffalo State and Fredonia. The trip kicked off with a 4-1 win over the Blue Devils of Fredonia on Friday night. Andrew Mather got Oswego on the board at the 7:24 mark of the first with a powerplay goal. Then about three minutes later Luke Moodie potted his 5th of the season to put the Lakers up 2. Chris Muise added to the lead with his 2nd of the season late in the 2nd period to give Oswego the 3-0 lead. Oswego upped the lead to 4-0 early in the 3rd thanks to Ian Boots 4th of the year. The shutout was broken up mid 3rd thanks to a Mike Muhs powerplay goal but it wasn't enough as Oswego held on for a 4-1 victory. Andrew Hare got the win making 16 saves for the Lakers while Oswego blasted 41 shots on both Mark Friesen and Jeff Holloway in the win. Here are the video highlights:

So after knocking off Fredonia it was on to Buffalo State on Saturday night. Buffalo State jumped on the Lakers and threw them off their game. Oswego got on the board first 4 minutes in thanks to Paul Rodrigues's 4th of the year. Buffalo Stat tied the game up midway through the period on the first goal of the year from Nick Melligan. It seemed as if the period started off in favor of Oswego but shifted to Buffalo State. Osdwego connected on the man advantage late in the 2nd thanks to Chris Brown's 3rd of the year. The Bengals responded three minutes later thanks to Justin Knee's 3rd of the year to tie the game at two. Moving into the 3rd Justin Knee gave Buff State the lead 1:34 into the final frame. But Oswego would wake up scoring three times in the 3rd on goals from Paul Rodrigues (2nd of the game), Tim Carr and Kyle Badham. Oswego would walk away with the 5-3 win but it was a battle they didn't expect to really be in. It sounded a bit sloppy through most of the first two periods. Here are the highlights:

So after about a month of hockey, Oswego stands at 7-1-1 and is that is good enough for #2 in the USCHO National Coaches Poll behing national champion St. Norbert. Jon Whitelaw and Paul Rodrigues are leading the offensive charge with 14 points each, Rodrigues has 4 goals and 10 assists and Whitelaw comes in with 5 goals 9 assists. Rodrigues leads the team in assists and Whitelaw is tied with Luke Moodie for the team lead in goals. The boys have off for the thanksgiving break here in the states but when they do return to action next it will be in North Country in New York as they take the trip to Plattsburgh on Friday December 2nd and Potsdam Saturday December 3rd.
