Oswego State Men Roll Past Brockport and Geneseo

This past weekend the Oswego State Men's Hockey team may have found their game again with a pair of wins over Geneseo and Brockport, both home victories. The Lakers got it started Friday night with a 4-2 win over Geneseo. Jon Whitelaw got the scoring going for Oswego at the 12:20 mark of the 1st period. For Whitelaw it was his 2nd on this young season. Geneseo responded at the 13:34 of the period thanks to Zachary Vit's 3rd of the season. The Lakers ended the period with a 2-1 lead thanks to Captain Andrew Mather's 1st of the year at the 16:13 mark. Bobby Gertsakis got his first ever point in college, getting an assist on the Mather goal.

Moving to the middle frame, it took only 1:01 for Andrew Mather to score again, his 2nd of the night, to stretch the Lakers lead to 3-1. Zachary Vit would score his 2nd of the game and 4th of the season at the 6:14 mark. Oswego woul;d put the icing on the cake when Matt Singleton scored his first of the year at the 12:41 mark of the 3rd period to seal the 4-2 victory for Oswego. Adrian Rubeniukn stopped 46 of 50 Oswego shots, while his counterpart Andrew Hare stopped 20 of 22 Geneseo Shots. Andrew Mather and Jon Whitelaw each ahd 2 point nights with Mather scoring 2 goals and Whitelaw adding a goal and an assist. Here are the highlights from the tilt:






Then Saturday Oswego played host to Brockport, and this one was a bit more lopsided as the Lakers rolled to a 7-1 victory. Jon Whitelaw kept up his red hot play scoring his 3rd of the season just 40 seconds into the contest. Then at the 1:34 mark Matt Singleton scored his 2nd in as many nights to give Oswego a 2-0 lead. Moving on to the 2nd period Oswego would up the lead to 3-0 thanks to Chris Ayotte's 2nd of the year at the 5:31 mark. The offense would explode out of the Lakers in the 3rd period to the tune of 4 goals. Luke Moodie connected on the powerplay 1:21 in, then Kyle Badham 2nd of the year at 5:50, Paul Rodrigues connected for his 3rd of the year on the powerplay at 8:30, and to cap it all off Jon Whitelaw 2nd of the night at the 12:33 mark. Bobby Conner got Brockport on the board at just past the 18 minute mark but by then it was already too little too late. Joe Reagan gave up all 7 Oswego goals and faced 50 shots. Meanwhile Dan Jones stopped 27 of 28 Brockport shots. Jon Whitelaw (2 goals), Luke Moodie (Goal, Assist), Paul Rodrigues (Goal, 2 Assist), and Zack Josepher (4 Assists) each had monster nights on the score sheets. Here are the highlights:




Whitelaw currently leads the team in scoring with 4 goals and 8 assists, good for 12 points. Paul Rodrigues is 2nd in scoring with 3 goals and 6 assists good for 9 points. Zach Josepher leads the team with 7 assists. As of yesterday, Oswego was ranked #1 overall in the USCHO Coaches polls. Not a bad start for a 5-1 hockey club!
