Best & Worst NFL Week Fourteen

Week fourteen has come and gone in the NFL, and boy did things take a shake up for the playoff picture. The Giants took a huge hit with the loss to Arizona, really slashing their playoff hopes with a month left in the season. At the same token, with their win and a little help from other teams, the Cardinals jumped all the way to the 7th and final wild card spot. This is going to be a crazy final couple weeks of the season. We saw big performances from talent like Dereck Henry, Travice Kelce and DeAndre Hopkins. We also saw downer performances from talent like the Pittsburgh Steelers and Dan Bailey. We've got a lot to get to so lets dive right into it. Here's the best and worst from week fourteen in the NFL.

Best: Jalen Hurts, Quarterback Philadelphia Eagles
Pretty good way to get your NFL career off the ground as a starting QB. Hurts lead the Eagles to a stunning upset in a 24-21 win over the Saints. Hurts went 17 of 30 for `67 and a touchdown. But he did something that also ran the ball 18 times for 106 yards in the win. That's the difference in play between Hurts and Wentz. Wentz had been sacked 50 times through the last ten games. To be fair, that offensive line isn't that great to begin with. At the same time, Wentz isn't exactly the fleetest of foot. Hurts is. he can move and extend a play, as is evident by his rush totals from the win. For the Eagles to try and stay in this fight at the top of the NFC East, they might want to strongly consider keeping Hurts as the starter.

Worst: DeShaun Watson, Quarterback Houston Texans

It was a bit of a rough go of it in Houston this week. Chicago blew the doors off the Texans on Sunday, to the tune of a 36-7 win by thee Bears. Watson was supposed to be a key cog in the Texans offense. Yes Watson did throw for 219 yards and a touchdown, but he was sacked six times. SIX TIMES. That's almost as bad as what's happened to Carson Wentz the last few weeks in Philly. It also didn't help the fact that a lot of his wepaons were missing this week. I almost feel bad for Watson because the Texans expect to win, have him be the guy to lead them to victory, and do it all with nothing around him to really work with. That's not right, or fair man.

Best: Buffalo Bills
There have been times this year, I've openly called into questions if the Bills defense can manage to match its offense. They did it on Sunday in a 26-15 win over the Steelers, holding Pittsburgh to just 50 yards rushing. Josh Allen had a solid day under center, with 238 yards and a pair of touchdowns. They are not only having a winning season for the second year in a row, but they are on the cusp of doing something that they haven't done since 1995. Win an AFC East title. They got everything going in the right direction and Buffalo is starting to get on a roll again and do it at the right time.

Worst: Pittsburgh Steelers
Should the alarm's start going off in the Steel City yet? The Bills put a whooping on the Steelers, as we talked about above. Now lets look at this from the other side of the coin. With the loss, the Steelers lost out on the top seed in the AFC, with Kansas City now having taken over that spot. The way that KC has been playing, and how the Steelers have looked the last two games, it going to be tough for the Steelers to pass KC and get the top seed back. Pittsburgh has no real use out of its running game at the moment, they couldn't even pick up 50 yards against the Bills. Its leading to shorter passes, which are either inaccurate or are getting dropped.

Best: Dereck Henry, Running Back Tennessee Titans
To say that Dereck Henry has been in a zone this year would be an understatement. In the Titans 31-10 win over the Jaguars, Henry, once again, went off the charts. He finished the day with 26 carries for 21`7 yards and a couple of touchdowns. He's been in the zone as of late, and this marks the fourth time in the last five games he's gone over the 100 yard rush mark and the second time this season he's gone over two hundred yards in a game. He did it back in week five in an overtime win over Houston too. Been saying this for a long time that there is still a great need for a run game in the NFL and Henry is living proof that the run game still works in this league.

Worst: Dan Baily Kicker Minnesota Vikings
Heading into action on Sunday, the Vikings had been sitting in the 7th and final playoff spot in the NFC. They went into Tampa Bay and gave the Bucs all they could handle. The Bucs came away with a 26-14 win over the Vikings, and a part of that was the inability of Dany Bailey to be able to hit a kick. Normally, Bailey was automatic. Bailey missed four kicks on Sunday, three field goals and an extra point. And it wasn't that they were just misses, some of them were pretty wide too. That would have been good for ten points. It would have changed the tied of this ball game. And Bailey is usually pretty good, averaging 86.9% in his career on their kicks. Minnesota better hope he can figure out how to kick again if they want to get back into a playoff spot

Best: DeAndre Hopkins Wide Receiver, Arizona Cardinals
There's no doubt in anybody's mind that DeAndre Hopkins is an elite receiver in the NFL. In the Cardinals 26-7 win over the Giants, Hopkins went off, with nine catches for 136 yards. Those receiving yards tiled him with Travice Kelce of the Chiefs for the most receiving yards in a game this week. I know Hopkins never found the back of the endzone, it helped open things up more for the Cards offense to get to work and pick apart the Giants defense. Hopkins still has the game that he can be one of the very best in the business. He showed that Sunday against that Big Blue defense. And speaking of which.

Worst: New York Giants Lead NFC East
There had been some hope in Giants land. Coming into Sunday, the Giants had won four straight games and had just beaten the Seahawks in Seattle, which is a very tough thing to be able to do. Not only did they fall to Arizona, which we talked about above, but with the Eagles and Washington winning, there went the Giants hold on the NFC East lead. The way things had looked over the last month, even with the impressive game last week, the Giants had looked like they were able to make things click and get going in the right direction for the playoffs. They went from the 4th seed and hosting a playoff spot, to 12th place in the conference and on the outside looking in. They need to win out and get quite a bit of help if they want to have a chance to get into this playoff race in 2020/
