Big Time Suspension

There were, and are, big things happening in San Diego. Things re looking up for the Padres as they are right in the thick of things with not only the Wild Card race, but the race for the title in the West as well in the National League. The Padres are a good team, and they'd been doing it all this year, to this point, without star shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. Tatis had been out recovering from an injury, which is why he'd missed as much playing time as he has. Well it has gone from bad to worse for Tatis, as he's now going to miss the rest of the season.

And it has nothing to do with injury or anything like that.

Tatis was suspended late last week for violation of the league's substance abuse policy, which carries with it an 80 game ban.

This is starting to raise a few concerns. According to some reports, Tatis had tested positive for the ban after using a substance to treat a ring worm on his neck in the Dominican Republic. All this coming as Tatis was coming back from the wrist injury he suffered in December. Couple this with the fat that Tatis is getting paid a lot of money and it makes things look even worse for the Padres star. It makes one call into question his reliability to the Padres.

There's no denying that, when he's healthy and on the field, he's one of the brightest stars in all of the sport. He got a big contract as a reward for it. And he really hasn't been able to deliver on that big contract/ Either cause of the injury or now because of this. Tatis can overcome this by kind of getting his act together when he comes back off the suspension. Healthy and with his head back on right, he can really live up to all the hype and that contract.
